The story of the Healing of a Demon-Possessed Man is a story of direction from the Lord Jesus Christ Himself of the Highest Calling. The man was possessed by evil spirits or demons (I will define what a demon is and how they function in the spirit world in a later post) who lived in the tombs of Gerasenes. This man could not be bound, not even with a chain. He had been bound chain and foot, but he tore the chains apart and broke the irons on his feet. Can you imagine the supernatural strength of this man to be able to break chains and shackles with his bare hands? Night and day he was tormented and would cry out and cut himself (cutting is a sign of demonic possession, which is very real today.) When the man possessed with evil spirits saw Jesus, he ran to His feet (and literally worshiped HIM. Even the demons have respect for the Son of God that the world refuses to give Him.) and wanted to know what the Son of the Most High God wanted with him. He pleaded with Jesus not to torment him.
Do you understand the depth of that statement. Do you understand that the demonic spiritual world HATES Jesus so much, that it considers the Message of Christ, the Love of Christ, the Cross of Christ, torment? Can you see that in the world today? It is so obvious that the world, especially Americans, are becoming so self-centered that they do not understand the depth of Gods love, because they do not know God, because they do not want to know God. They are doing everything they can do to extinguish the message of Jesus Christ. When this happens, you know that the end draws nigh, for why would the God of Heaven wish to suffer along with a world that no longer knows Him nor believes in Him. God will not. He will bring a conclusion to this dispensation. The Dispensation of Grace is rapidly coming to a close. On in the story of the demon possessed man, he pleads with Jesus not to torment Him. Jesus rebukes the evil spirits and commands them to come out. He asks the name of the demon and he says his name is Legion, for they are many. A legion of Roman Soldiers during that time was about 5,000 to 6,000. These evil spirits that possessed this man saw a herd of pigs that equaled about two thousand. Jesus commanded these demons into this herd and the whole herd ran into the water and drowned. TWO THOUSAND demons possessed this man. Demon possession is alive today just as it was alive then. Nothing has changed from them to know other than the fact that we have become so immune to the things that are spiritual that we cannot see those demons; we relate to them. Scary. Lord, HELP us. The man was now free from such demonic possession and everyone was so amazed that it scared them to death and pleaded with Jesus to leave them. Again, that is how the world is today. It rejects the goodness and rich blessings of Christ. I am not talking about financially blessings, necessarily. I am not wealthy. As a matter of fact, I struggle, but my trust in the Lord to meet my needs is strong, and He reveals Himself more and more as He meets my needs. Look at the need that Christ met when He delivered this man. Look at what Jesus did for this man, and the man didn’t have to ask. The man couldn’t ask. The man was not in his mind; he was possessed. Jesus Christ is ready and He stands by on high alert waiting to meet our needs, all we need to do is reach out and take it, for it is already ours. Our needs have already been met by what Christ has done for us on the Cross. Everything that we have and need has been, and is, and will be provided by what He has done for us on the Cross. The Cross is the means by which we meet God and God meets us. Jesus said, “I am the way the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father but through me.” Jesus, the second person of the trinity, the Son of God, provides for us, YET WHILE WE ARE STILL SINNERS, the avenue to victory and that is the Cross, the Cross the Cross. As Jesus was leaving, the once demon possessed man wanted to leave and go with Him.
Oh, but Jesus… Oh, but Jesus… Oh, I don’t know if I can get this out without shouting. I don’t know if you can read this without shouting. Oh, but Jesus did not let him go, but said, “Go home to your family and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how He has had mercy on you.” PREACH. God has shown us so much mercy and love by sending His Son, by coming to this old world in the flesh and laying down His OWN life and shedding HIS OWN blood for the remission of our sins so that we may stand before the throne of Grace, JUSTIFIED and SANCTIFIED, as HIS OWN. For God Himself, has commanded us to share the good news of His Mercy and His grace and WHAT HE HAS DONE FOR US, for the time is rapidly approaching when He will split the eastern sky, with the trump of God and the voice of the Archangel and will call home His children. The dead in Christ will rise first and those who are alive will meet Him in the air and we will be with Him FOREVER. What more is there than to be concerned about the eternal state of your soul, and the eternal state of the souls of everyone with whom you come in contact, even your enemies. Jesus Christ did not see this man as His enemy, but he saw those demons which possessed the man as His enemy. He did not even speak to the man but to those which possessed him until after the man was free from those demons. Then, Jesus could speak to him and tell him that which he should do, and that was to tell in TEN CITIES, THAT WHICH GOD HAD DONE FOR HIM. That is our higher calling. That is our instruction from God; to go into all the world and to tell everyone what He has done for us.
Lord, Blessed Lord, Merciful and Most Holy God — Thank you for your mercy and your grace. Thank you for your love. Thank you for sending your Son, Jesus, our Lord, our Savior, Our Master to die for us. To shed his blood for us. To take upon Himself the sins of this world, my sins. It is in His name by which I come to you right now. Lead me and direct me. Show me Thy way, Oh, God. You are a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. Continue to fill me with your Holy Spirit. Let your Holy Spirit lead me and direct me. Teach me to know without doubt, Your still, small voice. Help me to see through spiritual eyes and help me to discern that which is evil from that which is good, even if that which is evil takes on the appearance of that which is good. Only by the Power of Your Holy Spirit can I have such discernment. Use me, Oh, God, to be the vessel of which you are looking so that the Truth may be shared, so that You may be glorified. Give me courage to stand firm in you, to never waver to the tricks of this world. Give me the courage and the strength to never waver to my own flesh. I pray, Oh, God, that you come quickly for Your children, but I pray, Oh, God, that none be lost. I pray for those who are lost and I pray that you convince and convict to salvation. I pray that none be lost. Use me, Oh, God, to bring the lost unto you, for the harvest is great. There are so many many that are so lost and they don’t realize it. They don’t realize because they have become so immune to the pain and loneliness. The emptiness has been filled so long with those things which lack substance. But those things are being consumed in such quantities that they seem to fill that emptiness. But, You, Oh, God are worthy and fully capable of answering my prayer. I know that you hear me, Oh, God. I know that you if you hear me, you will answer me. Save my family. Save my friends. Save my enemies. Save this world from itself. You are Holy. You are precious. Without you, I am nothing. Without you, I know nothing. I cannot breath without you, Oh God. Show this world the love which you have shown me. Call unto yourself the lost of this world. Release your Holy Spirit to bring unto yourself your own for time is running out. In the most precious name of Jesus. Amen.
